Is Joe Mauer Gonna Surpass Mike Piazza As The Greatest Offensive Catcher Of All Time?

Piazza is regarded as the best offensive catcher of all time.
But in 20 yrs will Mauer have better numbers then Piazza?
Or will Mauer move to 1st base & Piazza will still be the man?

You can’t really look that far ahead with catchers, first, you have an injury factor, and some catchers break down quicker. Usually, at 34 or 35, the numbers start to decrease.
Besides, Mauer goes into a new stadium next year, is that going to be a pitchers park, if it is, he’s f**cked.

  2. He might end up with better offensive production than Piazza but it will not be at catcher. He will be moved to another position within a couple of years.
He’s 6 ft 5in, which is very tall for a catcher and people that size get too beat up – it’s just so hard on their legs. He’s gotten away with it because he is young but you get old fast at catcher. He will be moved to another position so his offense will be worth more.

  3. Mauer is not moving from catcher position. The Padres owner is gonna break his piggy bank and bring him from San Diego, with all the load of young talent we have in the Padres, an excellent catcher and hitter like Mauer will make our team a serious contender for next year playoffs.
Hey it was worth the try.
    He will, definately.

  4. Hmm. Maybe.
I think Mauer will have a better Batting Average and On-base Percentage.
But I don’t think Mauer will hit more home runs or get as many RBIs. At the pace he’s at now, he would have to play til the age of 39 consistently getting an average of 28 HRs a season, without injury.

  5. Yes because Mauer compared to Piazza is like saying Arod will surpass Barry Bonds’ home run record mark before the end of his career.
you can look at the numbers and these atheles today can surpass legends so then when we become adults our kids will be watching hall of fame superstars.

  6. Yeah, I’ve heard rumors that he’s gonna move to 1st base because the Twins feel they won’t continue to get his offensive production if his body breaks down at the catcher position. I think Piazza’s still gonna be the man.

  7. Maybe by some he is. Others would argue Yogi Berra or Johnny Bench. Then there is Bill Dickay. Mauer has a long way to go to pass a good number of catchers offensive achievements.

  8. Should we consider or ignore imposing a Steroids Penalty on Piazza?
I don’t care, but the masses typically want to rant about such matters and denounce the involved players.

  9. i think so…i think he’ll continue hitting like he did this year through the prime of his career.

  10. He already has.

  11. Wayyyyy too early to tell.

  12. I don’t think so. He will not hit as many home runs as Piazza.
