  1. He’s a free agent, you cant trade him.
If he pitches next year, it wont be for the Mets.

  2. He’s a Free Agent so he won’t need to be dumped or traded. Initially in ‘05, his and Beltran’s signings helped bring back an image to the Mets. The length of all Pedro, Wagner and Castillo’s contract were all unarguably too long. The Mets should not bring back Pedro Martinez. Pedro Martinez gave up a 1st inning run in 18 out of 20 of his starts. It really compromised the Mets early success in games too because they led all of baseball in 1st inning runs. He had a 5.61 ERA and missed 2 months of the season. The Mets should have booted him out of the rotation before it was all over.
Pedro’s had a very sharp decline in his skill. In my opinion, the turning point was when he got injured in April. When he came back to pitch last September of ‘07, he was actually very effective. He won 3 games in 5 starts and had a 2.57 ERA. It’s kind of ironic, but all the guy’s who dragged the Mets down this year were the guy’s who helped just get the last day of the season to count. That’d include Alou and his .341 BA and 30 game hit streak. Or Marlon Anderson’s amazingly clutch hits. Or Luis Castillo’s .296 BA with the Mets down the stretch.
In fact, they shouldn’t re-sign any of their Free Agents. Luis Ayala had a 5.50 ERA with them. Oliver Perez’s agent is Scott Boras and will demand a lot. Ollie was too inconsistent even if he’s a big game pitcher. I think they should aim their attention at C.C. with the 30+ million coming off the books. If not him, there are other solid starters out on the market such as Jon Garland, Randy Wolf and Braden Looper. The only FA’s that should be considering being brought back are Easley and Tatis. Maybe not even Easley because he’s gotten hurt at the wrong time two years in a row.

  3. he has no contract anymore, so he will either be picked up by a team as a free agent or he will not end up playing, but he will get signed as a free agent.

  4. the mets need all the help they can get and all the players that dont choke they can get

  5. Martinez’ contract is expired. Minaya doesn’t have to do anything.

  6. martinez is old and washed up. only a team in DIRE need of a pitcher should sign him.
